Netscape v7.x (PC) - Account Setup

If you're having difficulty setting up your email account with Netscape version 7, follow these instructions:

The following example is illustrated using Netscape v7.02.0.


Click on the Mail icon in the upper left corner...

This will open the following window:

Click on Create a new account and a wizard will begin. It starts with this window:

Select Email account and click Next:

Fill in the following information:

Your name Put your full name here (e.g. Joe Smith)
Email address Your email address is username@yourdomain.com

Now click on Next to bring up the third window of the wizard:

Fill in the following information:

Incoming Server Type Your server type is a POP server
Incoming Server Name Your POP3 server is mail.deepskytech.com

Click on Next to bring up the next window:

User Name Your user name (account ID) is username%yourdomain.com

Click on Next to bring up the fifth window of the wizard:

Account Name The account name needs only to be a name by which you will recognize the account (e.g. My Deep Sky Account)

Click on Next to bring up the final, confirmation window of the wizard:

Now click on Finish to conclude the wizard and to return to the following window:

In the folders list box on the left, make sure the account you just created (My Deep Sky Account in this case) is selected and then click on View settings for this account. The following window will come up:

The settings should match, so make sure My Deep Sky Account is still highlighted in the box on the left and then click on the Set as Default button at the bottom left.

Now click on Outgoing Server (SMTP) in that same white box on the left. The dialog box will now look as follows:

Make sure the box is checked next to Use name and password and that Never is selected for Use secure connection (SSL) and then fill in the following information:

Server Name Your SMTP server is yourdomain.com
User Name Your SMTP user name (account ID) is username%yourdomain.com

Now click on the Advanced... button to bring up this dialog box:

Your SMTP server should be listed here. If it is the only one, then it is already selected as the default server. If it is not the default server, select it and then click on Set Default.

Now click on OK to return to the Outgoing Server SMTP Settings window. Once that window is active, click on My Deep Sky Account in the white box on the left to return to this window:

Now click on the Advanced... button and the following dialog box pops up:

Verify that the Server: setting is set to Always use default server and click OK to return to the Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings window. Click OK again to save these settings.

You can now send and receive email with your Deep Sky account.
